Back to work: How to promote healthy eating

March 29, 2022

Back to work how to promote healthy eating | lets be game changers lets be game changers

As most industries will testify, the workplace has become very different over the last couple of years. Gone are the days when working from home was a luxury; it’s now normality for many.

However, times are starting to change again. While most experts believe that working from home will always stay a thing, the consensus is that switching to a hybrid model will be the preferred approach for most companies.

This will be a sharp change for many workers who have got used to their WFH routines. One issue that will be turned on its head is healthy eating. As we all know, a poor diet is responsible for all sorts of health issues that blight insurance companies and hospitals. The office has always been a place full of temptations, and through today’s post, we’ll mull over some of the best ways to conquer these and ensure you don’t fall into this category.

Don’t be in the mad rush and skip breakfast

We get it; life is changing. Gone are the days when you’ll roll out of bed straight to your desk. Instead, a little more prep is required, and in a bid to work those elusive snoozes into your routine, there’s every chance you’re going to be running against the clock every morning.

Despite this, don’t be tempted to skip breakfast. This is your most important meal of the day, and it’s going to set you up for success. As soon as you decide to miss it, you’re heightening the chances of snacking on all the wrong foods later in the morning – with the office vending machine the most likely destination.

Bulk up your lunch

Lunch is another meal that will require a little bit of prep. If you’re used to grabbing something on the go, it’s time to rethink your strategy. The best way to make sure you’re eating healthily is to cook up a big batch of food at the weekend and take it with you to work. The worst thing you can do is try and play it by ear (which means hitting the nearest fast-food chain as soon as 12pm arrives).

If cooking isn’t your thing, there are plenty of healthy pre-packaged options on the market. Just make sure you take the time to read the labels and avoid anything high in sugar or salt. In other words, the standard rules apply.

Bring your own snacks

The office vending machine is a dieter’s worst nightmare. It’s full of all the wrong foods, and it’s always there, tempting you when you’re feeling a little bit peckish. The best way to avoid giving in is to bring your own snacks to work.

This could be anything from a piece of fruit to a handful of nuts – the point is making sure that it’s a mindful choice. If you leave it until you’re too hungry midway through the morning, you’re asking for trouble.

Be prepared to say ‘no’

This can be not easy in a modern-day office environment, but it’s essential. After all, modern business lessons tell us to grab opportunities – but there can be exceptions.

Every day you’ll be greeted with temptations. It might be the company ‘bake club’, or it might be your colleague’s birthday. You’re under no obligation to agree to every treat that comes your way. You’ve probably lived without these offers for two years – and it’s probably done you no-end of favours.

Do you have to be a party pooper and turn down every workplace treat that heads your way? Of course not. As with everything, it’s all about moderation.
