Music Midtown
Music Midtown started in 1994 and continued strong until 2005. Then it stopped until 2011, and that year it received more hype than other. This music fest has hosted big names like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, Zac Brown Band… that’s just naming a few. The fest now takes place every year in mid-September when the weather is ideal in Atlanta.
Atlanta Dogwood Festival
The Atlanta Dogwood Fest has been around for decades and its main objective is to welcome springtime into the city each year. About 80 years ago, a wealthy Atlanta business man named Walter Rich wanted to promote ATL through its numerous dogwood trees throughout the city. More dogwoods were planted, and to this day the 2-week blooming period is a sight to behold. The festival is currently held over 2 weeks each springtime in Piedmont Park.
Dragon Con
Every September something magical takes place in the city. You might be confused about what’s going on in Atlanta if you’re unaware of Dragon Con that’s happening. During Dragon Con, you’ll see people dressed up in outlandish costumes depicting their favorite comic book characters. About 50,000 people come to show their Dragon Con pride, taking over the city for 4 full days.
Atlanta’s Peach Drop
You probably already know that Georgia is famous for their juicy peaches. Because of this, every year on New Year’s Eve, Atlanta does something unique to celebrate the great state of Georgia. Instead of the run-of-the-mill ball drop that happens in NYC at midnight, Atlanta celebrates with a peach drop instead. The tradition started in 1989 and started as a small event, but no more can you describe it as small.
Virginia Highland Summerfest
Who doesn’t like to celebrate the approaching summertime? In Atlanta, everyone wants to celebrate summertime, and they do so by attending the Virginia Highland Summerfest. During the fest, 2 major streets shut down to cars and traffic and booths can be found on either side. The fest features everything from local food vendors and craft beers to homemade crafts and live musical performances. Bring your kids along for the ride; they’ll love the entire section devoted to young ones.
