5 Foods to Avoid When Dealing with Erectile Dysfunction

August 22, 2019

Erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence is a condition where a man is unable to get an erection or sustain it long enough to participate in sexual intercourse. You can check much deeper information on how to treat an erectile dysfunction at https://www.numan.com/erectile-dysfunction. Both physiological and psychological problems can cause this condition. The physiological causes include diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and heart disease. The psychological conditions include anxiety, stress, and any other situation that may cause distress. However, the causes are not limited to chronic illness – substance abuse and some prescription drugs may also trigger the condition. Impotence may also be caused by treatment for prostate cancer and advanced age.

5 foods to avoid when dealing with erectile dysfunction | lets be game changers lets be game changersMost men will experience this condition at some point in their life as they advance in age, with impotence being most common among men who are over 40. One’s sexuality does not predict the problem as it affects both straight and gay men. In most cases, erectile dysfunction is a temporary condition that can be corrected through medical intervention.

For most men, impotence is a temporary condition that is caused by toxic stress or alcoholism and reverses when the situation improves. However, prolonged ED can negatively impact the quality of life by affecting your emotional well-being. The reduced social function can be manifested through withdrawal from social activities.

While there are many causes of ED, diet is one of the simplest to manage.

Read on to find out some of the dietary causes of erectile dysfunction.

Fast Foods

One of the leading causes of impotence is obesity. Obesity is a major cause of vascular conditions such as diabetes and heart disease that are associated with erectile dysfunction. It can result in type II diabetes, which is associated with severe nerve damage and can cause prolonged ED. Consequently, one can manage the condition by avoiding foods that cause weight gain. One approach is to reduce the consumption of foods with a high-calorie content because they lead to the accumulation of fats in the body and impede blood flow.

Try to avoid fried foods as fats and proteins that have been cooked to extreme temperatures are harmful to the heart and may cause prostate cancer. Moreover, they induce weight gain, which causes hormone imbalance leading to ED. People with ED should avoid fried meat and the majority of fast foods such as French fries and doughnuts because they are detrimental to their sexual vitality.

Saturated Fats

Avoid foods that are high in saturated fats as they damage blood vessels, leading to impotence. Such foods can result in high cholesterol, which damages blood vessels and leads to problems with blood circulation. High cholesterol impedes blood flow by clogging the veins that lead to the coronary arteries and causes an insufficient blood supply to the penis. The inadequate blood supply to the penis makes it hard to sustain an erection. Some of the sources of bad cholesterol include red meat, high-fat dairy products, and coconut oil. Some of these foods also contain excessive protein that suppresses the production of testosterone.

Reduce Alcohol Consumption

Excessive consumption of alcohol can damage the liver, nerves, and other organs, weakening the whole body. Moreover, alcohol causes an imbalance in the male hormones that drive sexual activity. It reacts with the testosterone in the body, producing metaborates that the body dispenses of through urine. The reduced availability of testosterone negatively affects sexual performance.

Avoid Canned Food

Canned food contains bisphenol-A (BPA), which is a synthetic preservative that keeps food fresh for long periods. Research indicates that BPA plays a role in several endocrine disorders, and may lead to low sex drive and infertility. Similarly, one should also avoid beverages that may contain the chemical such as bottled water and soft drinks. Further, one should avoid cooking or heating food in plastic containers. Instead, one should consume foods that are labeled BPA-free.

Avoid Processed Foods

Processed foods, such as refined cereals, have high concentrations of carbohydrates and saturated fats that may trigger the production of chemicals that mimic the hormone estrogen. Excessive supply of estrogen suppresses the male hormone testosterone, leading to disorders such as mood swings and infertility. In particular, one should eat flaxseed and soy in moderation as they contain vast amounts of estrogen. However, men can eat more of fermented soy as the harmful compounds have been broken down into simple sugars.
