5 Reasons Why In-Person Tutoring is Effective

September 12, 2019

The world we live in today is a highly competitive one, and every parent wants to make sure their child stays on top. Whether it is ensuring they get the best grades in school or getting them enrolled in the most renowned universities, parents are willing to do everything they possibly can for their children to do well academically.

As parents explore different learning approaches to give their child a competitive edge over other students instead of just relying on traditional schooling, the market of private tutoring has seen significant growth over the years. According to a study by Zion Market Research, the global private tutoring market was worth USD 96.2 billion in 2017 and is expected to generate USD 177.6 billion by the year 2026.

The reason for this rapid increase in private tutoring is that the standard education system is unable to cater to the individual learning needs of each student. Students are put together in groups and taught at the same pace, using the same techniques, without considering that each one of us has a different learning capability than the rest.

On the other hand, in-person tutoring offers a highly personalized and innovative learning environment, allowing each student to learn at their own pace, in a way that makes them achieve their learning milestones in the quickest, most efficient way possible.

If you are wondering whether in-person tutoring is worth your money, here are five reasons why it is a highly effective form of learning:

  • One-on-one attention

When teaching 30 students in a class at the same time, it is impossible to give each student individual attention. And even when a student feels like they need extra help in a particular area, they might not be able to get it.

A private tutor does not need to give time to a dozen other students in the class. He is available to answer all the questions your child has and can go over a topic as many times as needed for your child to understand it. Especially if your child is too shy to ask questions in a classroom full of other students, a private tutor can help resolve their issues and improve their understanding of a subject.

  • Flexibility

Private tutoring offers flexibility since the tutor will be coming to your house to teach, you can decide on a timetable that works for you and your child. It can be very convenient for parents who have a busy schedule themselves. Especially if your child is young, the school hours plus the time spent on traveling to and from school can get too tiresome for a small child, and primary school tutoring at home can be a great alternative.

Another advantage of in-person tutoring is that you can adjust the tutoring lessons based on the child’s needs. For example, you can have weekly lessons during regular days but increase the number when the child is preparing for an exam to help them get sufficient revision and practice done.

  • Adaptable to the child’s’ needs

In-person tutoring involves the tutor taking time to understand the child’s learning ability. Since the tutor is working one-on-one with the child, they can understand the child better and discover the best ways to teach him/her. They can adjust their teaching style or methodology and work at the pace of your child. In a classroom, the teacher has to follow a set lesson plan and teaching style, which may not always be the most suitable one for your child.

  • Unique learning approach

Schools are often rigid in their teaching style. They have specific goals and lesson plans to be followed and basically, go by the textbook. In-person tutoring is not so formal – the tutors have the freedom to use materials and teaching styles that they think works best. They are likely to develop greater interest in learning when they are not just studying one textbook after another.

  • More parental involvement and supervision

With private tutoring, the parents have the power to decide who will teach their child and can select the best person for the job, based on their child’s learning style. It is often not possible in a school where the students or their parents have no say in selecting the teachers. With so many experienced tutors now offering private tuitions, you can surely find a tutor that will bring out the best in your child.

Secondly, parent-teacher interactions in a school are limited to once in a few months, and this isn’t enough to discuss issues vital to the performance of your child. A private tutor offers constant feedback and can even interact with the parents daily. This continuous communication keeps parents informed about the child’s strengths and struggles, ensuring their full involvement in the child’s education.

To sum up, in-person tutoring is a great way to help your child improve their academic performance. Whether he/she has been finding a particular subject exceptionally difficult or wants to excel in one area of their interest, it can make a huge difference. Give it a try – you will not regret it.
