Getting Terminated: Finding Employment After Losing a Job

November 13, 2019

Getting terminated finding employment after losing a job | lets be game changers lets be game changers

Although the unemployment rates are a low 3.6 percent in the United States, there are still many people who lose their job every day.

If you have recently lost your job and are down on your luck, you need the tools to get back on your feet. Getting terminated is something you can come back with the right attitude and tools.

Read on to get started.

Keep a Positive Attitude

Almost everyone has gotten terminated from their job at least once in their life, maybe even more.

Don’t feel ashamed; this situation doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough or not valuable. Most of the time, companies let employees go because of the economy.

Keep a positive attitude. People who take losing a job as an unfortunate event or an opportunity to grow are more likely to get back out there, instead of a person who takes the situation of personal inadequacy.

Create a Plan

Don’t expect success to happen overnight — creating a successful plan takes time. Give yourself a timeline to set your plan in motion.

Make a list of potential job opportunities and research local companies you are interested in exploring. Make a separate list of what you are good at and what you enjoy doing.

Ask your Professional Contacts for a Reference

Depending on which terms you parted with your employer, you should be able to ask for a reference.

If there are any managers at your previous job that you had a good rapport with, ask if you can use them at a reference.

Aside from the one you got terminated from, you can use previous employers as a reference, so don’t be afraid to reach out to them.

Take Advantage of Networking

Networking is a critical step to job hunting. People who were referred by a current employee or a friend have a higher chance of being hired.

It is essential to reach out to your contacts and ask for their support in introducing you to people who can help, let them know what you are looking for in the next step in your career.

Some companies don’t advertise their job openings; many job seekers underestimate networking when looking for new job prospects.

Evaluate Your Career and Make Adjustments

An important question to ask yourself is where are you in your career? It’s important to know if you are happy with your job, or you are just following a routine with no long term goal.

If you have always wanted to switch to a job in finance, for example, this is your chance.

Consider taking an aptitude test. An aptitude test is an excellent way to determine the types of careers you will be successful in; they use your interest and skills to find a good match.

Self-reflection is always helpful now and then, but it is crucial when you’ve just lost your job. Take some time to ask yourself what went wrong and what can you do to improve.

What to Do After Getting Terminated

Now that you know what to do after getting terminated, it’s time you get started.

Start by having a positive attitude, create a plan, start networking, and make career adjustments. By making little changes, you can start a new career.
