Storage space can be hard to come by, and if you’re living in a big city, like New York, it can become even more challenging. If you’re living with multiple people, it’s an even bigger problem.
Luckily, there are a lot of really creative ways to increase your storage space that you may never have realized. I’ve compiled five storage container ideas that will help relieve the stress and anxiety of storage space, while still keeping your home clean!
1. Storage Container Ideas for Northerners
If you’re from a cold place, you know that storage space can be extra limited from bulky winter coats, jackets, and scarves.
But there are options! If it’s the off-season, use a vacuum-sealed storage bag to store all your bulky clothes under the bed or in a storage closet. This keeps them protected, but out of the way.
If it’s the winter, you will need these items readily available, so making a DIY cubby would be a great way to maximize space. A personalized wall cubby can be made with just a few hooks, nails, and baskets, and will help keep things organized.
2. Skubb Boxes For Drawer Organization
You may THINK you don’t have enough room for your clothes, but these boxes may change your mind.
If drawer space is your issue, consider using Skubb boxes as drawer dividers. Skubb boxes are an IKEA product and can do wonders for tidying up socks, shorts, and tank tops within drawers.

However, I highly suggest clearly labeling each jar/tin to reduce any confusion with a sticky note or tape!

A classic, but reliable source of storage is plastic storage containers, which can be purchased in any size from just about anywhere. Though not as sexy, certain items will require the use of storage containers (such as holiday decor).
Larger items that you need, but don’t use very frequently are the perfect reason to use plastic storage containers. They can be placed under a bed, in an attic, basement, or garage.
5. Shoeboxes for Anything and Everything
Another classic but versatile storage container are shoeboxes. They can be used to declutter in bedrooms, bathrooms, or even kitchens!
Shoeboxes are great for storage because they can be stacked on top of each other, maximizing your space.
And if you’re worried about the “look,” you can always decorate them in wrapping paper to improve their aesthetic. I’ve actually seen a lot of really “cute” shoeboxes!
