Therapy is a growing trend for all the right reasons. Mainstream media is covering mental health as something that everyone should practice. With that being said, people all over the world are looking for a therapy option that is right for their specific standing in their mental health journey. If you are looking to start therapy, here are five options you could potentially benefit from.

Group therapy

Group therapy is popular, as it offers a support system that is different than the one in your personal life. You can join different therapy groups that focus on different areas of mental health. There are therapy groups for individuals with eating disorders, depression, and general anxiety. The idea behind group therapy is that it allows members to understand other situations and help each other improve. Having a group where everyone is going through similar but different situations can bring patients to realize the faults in their own ways. This is an option that is low commitment, conversational, and more social than other forms of therapy. 

Family therapy 

Family therapy is fantastic for families going through a transition. You don’t have to have family drama to go to family therapy. It is a way to open up communication and mend strained relationships. Family therapy can be for times when your family is going through a divorce, a cross-country move, or a loss of a loved one. Family therapy aims to strengthen your communication and create a lasting family bond. 

Couples therapy 

Relationship therapy can help couples who are looking to improve as individuals and a pair. If you are having issues with communication or planning your future together, relationship therapists can offer expertise and practices for a seamless transition. The first step is acknowledging that relationship therapy doesn’t mean your relationship is on the rocks. It is a positive asset that can only make you stronger together. 

Holistic therapy 

Holistic therapy is becoming more popular for a variety of medical and health issues. The idea behind this form of therapy is digging into the deeper root of health issues, whatever that might entail. Holistic therapists take a look at factors like: nutrition, daily routine, stress-inducers and previous trauma. This approach has had success for those who haven’t found the root of their health issues through traditional medicine. For instance, it has been found that diet can have a major impact on depression. More research is needed in this area, according to Mayo Clinic. With that being said, eating a diet rich in fiber and vegetables and low in processed food has the potential to significantly benefit those suffering from depression. A holistic therapist could give nutrition advice and assist their patients in finding a diet and routine that could supplement other forms of treatment. 

Of course, if you have depression, you should speak to a variety of professionals and find the path that suits your recovery. Holistic treatment is a viable option to supplementing recovery.

Cognitive therapy 

Cognitive therapy is a form of therapy that challenges unwanted negativity and thoughts. The main focus is problem solving and moving forward with life changes. Cognitive therapy can be for anyone in a variety of situations. It can teach techniques to dealing with stress and making educated life choices that will pay off.
