Some uninformed people still believe animals are nothing more than “dumb beasts.” However, with all the unlikely animal friendships that have been formed through the years, this has been proven untrue.

1. Dennis the Duckling and Fred the Labrador
When Dennis the duckling was first found, things were not looking good for him. A fox had mauled his mother and ultimately died. However, Fred the Labrador, with help from his human Jeremy found Dennis and rescued him from almost certain death.
Ever since this heroic rescue, Dennis and Fred have been inseparable. Fred has stepped in as a father-figure for Dennis and for an abandoned baby deer that was found in the woods. Way to go, Fred!

2. A Deer and a Rabbit
Don’t worry, you didn’t just stumble into the plot of a Disney movie favorite; there really is photographic evidence of the friendship between a rabbit and deer.
Tanja Askani, an animal photographer, captured the duo and their unique friendship. We can only hope they are living happy and healthy in the woods today.
3. Mtani the Labrador and Kasi the Cheetah
During their youth, Mtani and Kasi formed an unusual friendship while living in Bush Gardens. However, as Kasi got older, he began to drift a bit from his friendship with Mtani, becoming more interested in the girl Cheetahs next door.
While Kasi now spends more time with the other cheetahs, the unlikely friends often visit and travel to schools and other places together.
4. Candy the Dog and Mani the Wild Boar Piglet
Found starving in a vast field in southwest Germany, Manni, the wild boar piglet, was rescued by the Dahlhaus family. He was then introduced to Candy, the family’s Jack Russel terrier.
The unlikely pair hit it off right away. Manni recovered well and may be moved to a wildlife park as he gets older.
5. Leo, Baloo, and Shere Khan
This story involves three friends – Leo the lion, Baloo the bear, and Shere Khan, the tiger. All three were rescued from a drug dealer who did not care for the animals properly, and he abused them.
Baloo had to have surgery to remove the previous owner’s harness because it grew into his skin. Today, after being rescued, these friends are inseparable.
Touching Animal Friendships
