1. Ask the Team
Team building should start with making sure you know the needs of the team. Distribute anonymous surveys about the strengths and weaknesses of the team members and how people would like to move forward.
You don’t want to plan elaborate team-building activities without asking for opinions first. After all, everyone responds to different types of encouragement. Asking first and getting a feel for the group will save all of you time and discomfort.
2. Volunteer Activities
One of the best ways to have everyone feeling like a team is by volunteering. Why not do something like a toy drive, or volunteer your time at a nursing home or animal shelter?
Doing this together will help your team feel more fond of each other after seeing their good deeds.
Remember, though, this is a volunteer activity. Don’t make it compulsory and take input first before you decide.
3. Puzzles
Who doesn’t love a good puzzle?
Don’t worry, we’re not talking about the 5000 piece puzzles that come in boxes from hobby stores. We’re talking about puzzles that you can work on in a more physical way.
One of the most popular kinds of group puzzles is the escape room. Gather everyone together for an evening of puzzle games as you try to escape from a locked activity room.
You can also come up with a group scavenger hunt full of clues and logic puzzles to complete around the office. This forces people to work together if they want to get the prize!
4. Creative Activities
Why not let your team unleash their creative sides? Getting creative helps to break the monotony of the work experience and the members of your team can show a whole new side of themselves.
Something like a paint night or Art Jamming session is great for this. You could also consider some kind of dance activity or a crafting session. Be creative!
5. Unrelated Group Classes
Your learning doesn’t have to be about the workplace. Why not sign everyone up for a group class that can teach them new skills?
Not only will they learn important social skills for the workplace, but they’ll also pick up something new. There are pottery classes, cooking classes, exercise classes, and so much more.

Team Building Doesn’t Have to be a Drag
Don’t torture your team with team building activities that they’re going to hate. Let them in on the conversation and pick things that will engage them and bring them closer together. Throw those icebreakers out of the window and start something new and fun.
