Does My Child Need Glasses? This Is How to Tell

March 22, 2021

Does my child need glasses This is how to tell | lets be game changers lets be game changers

As parents, we want what’s best for our children. Sometimes, it can be difficult to see if they’re struggling with something. Your child’s vision can be one of those times.

Have you noticed your child struggle with things they once did daily? It may be time to schedule a vision screening.

If you’ve ever wondered, does my child need glasses? This post is for you. Read on to learn some of the tell-tale signs your child may need glasses.

1. Squinting

Have you noticed your child squinting lately? While some squinting may be okay, repeated squinting could be signs of a refractive error.  A refractive error occurs when the shape of your eye prevents light from getting to the retina. It can affect how the eyes focus on images.

Sometimes, children will squint to help improve the clarity of an object.

2. Tilting Their Head or Covering One Eye

Have you seen your child cock their head to one side or cover one eye when looking at something? This could be a sign that they are using this strategy to see the object with greater clarity.

This could be a sign that your child has amblyopia. That is a fancy term for lazy eye. It is one of the most common eye disorders in children.

3. Sitting Too Close to Screens

You may have noticed that your child tends to sit close to the television. Ask yourself, do they hold devices close to their face? Do they lower their head when they read?

These are all common signs that your child may have vision issues.

Myopia or nearsightedness is when people can see well close up, but not at a distance. That will cause them to hold screens, books, or anything else close to their face for improved clarity.

4. Rubbing Eyes Often

When children rub their eyes often, it’s usually due to eye fatigue or eye strain. This could be a symptom of various eye problems or conditions.

It may be time to see an ophthalmologist. Follow this link for more info about how an ophthalmologist can help.

5. Complaining of Headaches and Eye Pain

Does your child complain about headaches? How about eye pain?

If so, this could show that your child is overexerting their eyes. Many children will complain of these symptoms due to blurred vision.

6. Difficulties Learning

How your child functions in the classroom can say a lot about their vision. Children may have trouble seeing the board, which makes it challenging to learn.

They may struggle going back and forth between close-up and far away objects. For instance, switching back and forth between a computer and the teacher.

If you notice a drop off in your child’s performance, it may be due to poor vision.

Does My Child Need Glasses?

If your child has one or more of these symptoms, you may be wondering does my child need glasses? The best way to find out is to schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist.

They can determine if your child needs glasses.
