Get Your Life Back on Track: What to Look for When Choosing the Best Drug Rehabilitation Program

March 25, 2019

When you’re struggling with drug addiction, it can feel like there’s no way out. You may want to quit, but you don’t know the best way to kick the habit for good.

It’s important to keep in mind that you aren’t the only person going through this struggle. Substance abuse has been on the rise among all ages and demographics in the United States.

There are millions of people going through the same struggle, and some are actively looking for the best drug rehabilitation facilities and programs to stop.

If you’re ready to stop using, rehabilitation can be your best bet for living a drug-free lifestyle.

There are a lot of drug rehab facilities out there, and finding the right one for your needs can seem like a daunting task.

If you want to know how to find the best drug rehabilitation program or facility, you’ve come to the right place. Read on to learn what you need to do.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Drug Rehabilitation Help

We’re not going to tell you obvious things like making sure facilities are licensed or to look up reviews. This post is going to focus on diving into your motivations for rehab and making sure that you make the right choice.

It’s also important to note that rehab isn’t a one size fits all fix to drug addiction. Someone may highly recommend a program that just isn’t right for your needs. This is why you need to take time to think about what you want and need.

If you’re interested in going through addiction rehabilitation, remember to keep these important tips in mind.

1. Think About Your End Goal

This question may seem strange when you’re thinking about going to rehab, but it’s an important one to answer to ensure that you get the right help.

Ceasing drug use is only one benefit of rehab. There are a lot of other potential benefits that can come from your program.

Do you want to find ways to stay away from all substances when you’re finished your program? Are you interested in finding ways to cut off enablers? Do you need better coping skills, in general, to avoid slipping into addiction?

Think about what you truly want to get out of rehab, and you’ll be able to find the right program.

2. Talk to a Doctor

You’ve made the decision to stop using drugs, and one of your first steps to recovery should be speaking with a doctor or an addiction specialist.

We know that talking to a doctor about your addiction can seem like a daunting task, but it’s important to make sure you’re being seen by someone that can assess your current condition.

This is especially important if you have any chronic conditions or ongoing health concerns. Doctors can help advise you on the best choices to make and can let you know if you could experience any difficulties due to other conditions.

A doctor won’t just take your vitals. They could recommend treatment options for you, and help make a comprehensive plan to beat your addiction.

If you don’t feel comfortable going to your primary doctor, you can choose a doctor that specializes in addiction treatment.

3. Keep All Options Open

You may not go through one program. It’s possible that a combination of rehabilitation services can help end your addiction.

Intensive outpatient rehab programs could be the best way for you to stop using, or they may not be the right fit for you. We mentioned before that drug rehab is going to be different for each person. This is why it’s important to keep an open mind and to be receptive to a variety of treatments.

Some people convince themselves that rehab won’t work for them because they have a rigid vision of what it will entail. If you keep an open mind, you can let go of any negative preconceptions and find something that will truly help you.

4. Think About the Medicinal Drug Aspect

Some drug rehabilitation facilities adopt a strict no substance use policy, and that includes being given medication from medical professionals. Others may use medication like methadone, buprenorphine or even CBD oil during your treatment.

People have very strong opinions on whether or not it’s a good idea to use medication when they’re in rehab. We aren’t here to tell you if one way is better than the other, that will be for you to decide.

If you’ve had addiction problems in the past with other medications, you may want to consider going for a substance-free program. You may also feel safe taking medications because you’ll be monitored by a doctor.

Again, we can’t tell you if either option is better for you. But these are still very important things to consider when you’re choosing your treatment program.

5. Don’t Confuse a High Price Tag for Quality

Drug rehabilitation programs can have a range of prices. Some programs may cost a few hundred dollars that can be easily covered by insurance. Others may cost several thousand dollars that you have to pay out of pocket.

Some of the more expensive programs may come with perks that you don’t need. Upscale rooms, an on-call masseuse, and 5-star chefs can be nice, but they aren’t essential for getting off drugs.

It’s important to realize that an expensive facility isn’t necessarily a better one. A rehab facility that costs $25,000 a month isn’t guaranteed to have the best staff or enough help to get you clean.

You can easily find an affordable drug rehab program that can help give you the results you want.

Live the Life You Want

When you know what to look for, finding the best drug rehabilitation help can be easy. If you consider what we’ve said in this post, you’ll be on the road to recovery in no time.

Now that you know what you need to do to help you, it’s time to think about how to help your loved ones cope with your addiction.

If you’re in a romantic relationship, your partner could be experiencing a lot right now. Couples counseling could help you both sort through your complicated feelings. Read our post on the benefits of counseling and see if it’s right for you.
