When the Weather Outside is Frightful, A Winterized Home is Delightful

November 10, 2019

Only 5 percent of Americans suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder.

However, we all know what it means to get the winter blues once the cold weather strikes. And yet, if your home isn’t winterized, the chills can feel much stronger when they arrive.

When the weather outside is frightful a winterized home is delightful | lets be game changers lets be game changers

Follow our tips below to ensure you live in a winterized home while saving on heating and staying toasty through to spring.

Check out the below for more!

1. Avoid Your Plumbing Freezing

When your plumbing system freezes, the flow of water to your home can stop working. This could stop you from getting a shower or washing the dishes.

Make sure you know where the water mains are located so that you can shut it off if necessary. You also need to drain your AC and shut off the valve.

Many people go on vacation during the winter months for some sunshine and warmth. However, make sure you keep your heating running to prevent your plumbing from freezing over.

2. Prevent Draft Under Doors

If your home isn’t well insulated, no matter how much you heat your home, it won’t stay warm for long.

There could be drafts underneath your doors allowing the warm air to escape. Drafts are actually the cause of up to 30% of wasted energy.

You can buy a draft snake to go along the bottom of your door. This can significantly block the cold air from outdoors and keep the warm air inside.

3. Get a Set of Thicker Curtains

Curtains or drapes are excellent, cheap energy-saving solutions to winterize your home. Just hang them over your windows to keep more of the heat inside.

You can even check out these Fire Curtains for extra insulation by blocking any gaps in your windows from allowing cold air to enter your home.

4. Turn Around Your Ceiling Fans

If you have any ceiling fans in your home, you may be surprised by the benefits of spinning the fan in the other direction.

Ceiling fans are commonly known as helping to move around the cold air from the AC during warm conditions.

However, the clockwise rotation of the fan will actually produce warm air. You could even reduce your heating costs with this simple method.

5. Get a Smart Meter for Your Home

During the winter, you want to be able to enjoy the warm temperature indoors when you’re there.

However, it’s not always easy to control your thermostat. You may have to turn it off/on when you’re out at work or asleep in bed.

If you have a smart meter installed in your home, you can save money on your energy bills and enjoy the warmer home when you’re actually there.
