Ø Licenses are not transferable and cannot be transferred by any means to a second party.

Ø Licensees or employees can operate dealerships.

Ø You must transparently post hours of operation at or near the main entrance.

Ø Will keep posted hours of operation.

Ø You will provide the department with all the phone numbers and information necessary to contact.

Ø It will ensure that the required information and telephone numbers are current and correct.

Ø Make your award records available for inspection by the department during reasonable hours.

Ø They must be aware of the obligations and responsibilities of a motor vehicle dealer.

Ø He will make every effort to resolve all complaints that have been filed against him.

Ø They will notify the department in writing of a permanent closure or cessation of activity.

Ø It will have a permanent sign identifying the dealership at your place of business.

Ø Said sign shall identify the dealership and shall use letters or other graphic representations.

Ø The sign must be visible and legible at a distance of 50 yards by the public.

Ø It will maintain a location address for the workplace that is assigned by the US Postal Service.

Ø You will report any changes made to the dealership to the department.

The types of licenses available

Once you have determined if you are in business, the next step is to ask, “What type of license do I need?” A seller should understand what licenses will be applicable for you, because the requirements might change.

Franchised Motor Vehicle Dealer – This type of license applies to the dealers who want to sell new cars. The vehicles must be licensed by an importer, manufacturer, or seller.

Franchised Motor Vehicle Service Facility – This license allows franchises to operate a repair and service center at a location other than your authorized dealer.

Independent Motor Vehicle Dealer – This license applies to sellers not authorized by a manufacturer with exclusive rights to sell a particular brand.

Wholesale Motor Vehicle Dealer – This license applies to wholesale dealers who only participate in the purchase, sale, or trade of motor vehicles wholesale or the auction.

Motor Vehicle Auction – This license allows anyone to sell motor vehicles or trailers to the highest bidder, as long as the seller is licensed.

Salvage Vehicle Dealer – This license is ​​issued to anyone who engages in the business of acquiring salvage or wrecked vehicles to resell their parts and the car.

BH Used Mobile Home Broker – This license applies to the person acting as an agent on behalf of the owner or seller of a used mobile home.

DH Mobile Home Dealer – This license applies to sellers to buy, sell, or display for sale mobile homes.

Recreational Vehicle Dealer – This license applies to sellers to buy, sell, or display for sale, new recreational vehicles.

Used Recreational Vehicle Dealer – This license applies to sellers to buy, sell, or display for sale, used recreational vehicles.

Non-Resident Dealer – This license applies to any person other than a resident of the state.

Who needs a license?

In basic terms, if you buy and sell cars as your core business, you will most likely need a permit. To be more specific, the state of Florida considers a seller if you sell more than three vehicles in 12 months. No license is required to sell your vehicle. Your car may be towed if it is parked in the wrong place with a for sale sign. It is highly recommended to join an online training program to understand the field better.
