The average life expectancy for Americans is around 79 years old. Although experts believe that this number will grow in the coming decades, many people are concerned with living longer right now.

If you want to extend your life expectancy, what are some different things that you can do?

Keep reading to read about five tips that can help you extend your life expectancy and live longer.

1. Be Mindful of What You Eat

Many people know the importance of eating healthy foods. But aside from helping you look and feel better, having a balanced diet can also have a direct effect on how long you live.

Although studies are inconclusive, experts believe that eating less meat and more plant-based foods can increase your life expectancy. Aside from eating the right foods, you also need to make sure that you don’t overeat.

Make sure to consume other necessary food groups as well. For some people, this can mean taking supplements, such as NMN powder.

2. Stay Active

Staying healthy doesn’t only mean eating the right foods. You also need to make sure that you exercise and stay active.

Studies have demonstrated that regular physical exercise can help you live a longer life. This doesn’t mean that you need to sign up for a gym membership (although that can also be a good idea). A simple 30-minute stroll around your neighborhood can be all your body needs to get your blood flowing and keep healthy.

3. Don’t Smoke

It should come as no surprise that smoking has dramatic effects on your health. In fact, experts link smoking with a number of different diseases, as well as early death. Smoking can take a decade off of your life.

If you are a smoker, understand that it’s never too late to quit. Regardless of your age, you’ll benefit from being smoke-free.

4. Limit Your Alcohol Consumption

Although many people don’t smoke in the United States anymore, most people can’t say the same for drinking alcohol. Yet heavy alcohol consumption can lead to heart, liver, and pancreatic disease, as well as early death.

Inconclusive studies have shown that moderate consumption of wine may be beneficial. Regardless of whether or not that’s true, be aware of how much you consume.

5. Try to Stay Happy and Stress-Free

The world of today is hectic, and it can be hard to stay positive and happy. Global quarantines and pandemics don’t make finding happiness any easier, either. Yet people who are happier tend to live longer.

Make an effort to try and stay stress-free. For some people, this means practicing yoga, meditation, and being mindful.
