7 Tips for Improving Oral Care at Home

September 15, 2020

7 tips for improving oral care at home | lets be game changers lets be game changers

Your teeth are one of the first things that people notice when they see you. Clean, healthy teeth go a long way to make a good impression.

Even more importantly, improving oral care reduces the risk of cavities, tooth pain, dental emergencies, infections, and other pathologies.

What you do with your teeth at home is just as important as what happens at your dentist’s appointment. Here are seven crucial tips for improving oral care at home.

1. A Stocked Bathroom

Do you want to improve your dental care routine? A good place to start is by looking in your bathroom.

Do you have all of the dental care products you need? At the very least, you need a toothbrush, floss, and a tube of toothpaste (likely one containing fluoride). Electric toothbrushes and mouthwash can help, too.

Remember to choose a toothbrush with soft bristles. Replace it every three to four months. Check out this OraMD review on a natural product for oral health.

2. When to Brush Your Teeth

You should brush your teeth in the morning and before you go to bed.

Sometimes more isn’t better. Brush your teeth too often or too vigorously can be harmful to your gums and enamel.

Do it for two minutes, twice a day.

3. Stay Flossing

Yes, you have to floss. You have to do it every day.

Unlike brushing, once a day does the trick.

It’s the best way to get the plaque that accumulates in between the teeth.

4. Avoid Sugary Foods and Snacks

It’s no question that sugar wreaks havoc on your teeth. It’s because the sugar predisposes to cavities and decay.

Brushing helps. But if you’re drinking soda and eating candy throughout the day, you’re going to be fighting a losing battle. You need to eat healthy for healthy teeth.

5. Bad Oral Habits

There are several habits that are an absolute no-no. They can severely damage your teeth, but you probably wouldn’t want to do these either way.

Smoking cigarettes increases your risk of oral health issues, such as gum disease and tooth decay.

Other habits to kick include biting your nails, chewing on pencils and other objects, and grinding your teeth. It can be easier said than done so consider talking to a doctor about it.

6. Drink Water

Instead of soda and sugary juice, opt for water.

You never want your mouth to get too dry. This favors bacterial growth on your teeth.

Some recommend two liters per day but your actual requirements will depend on several conditions.

7. Schedule Your Appointments

Even if you’re careful, you should see a professional from time to time. Be sure to schedule appointments as needed.

Most people don’t like going to the dentist but it’s important not to miss your appointment.

The Benefits of Improving Oral Care

Taking care of your teeth doesn’t require a massive effort. Basic oral health is easy and inexpensive. It just takes a little discipline.

Improving oral care begins at home. You’ll thank yourself later on.
