How does Marijuana and CBD Work in the Body?

April 24, 2020

To answer this question, we must first understand what they both are, and also their differences before we can fully understand how marijuana and CBD work in the body.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol and is found in the cannabis plant. There are currently 113 known cannabinoids, with all of them playing a significant part in the endocannabinoid system. When taken into the body, cannabidiol doesn’t affect the behavior of your mind and mental processes, because it is a non-psychoactive compound. It performs some medical benefits, which include the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. They are refined and sold as gummies, gels, supplements, and more. Even though the FDA doesn’t approve of this substance, it is still considered safe.

What is Marijuana?

Marijuana, which can also be called differently like weed, dope, kush, cannabis, pot, is the dried leave or flower of a cannabis plant. Unlike the CBD, it contains psychoactive compounds like tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, and this can alter your mind and mental process. They also have some medical benefits, like the treatment of anxiety, relieving stress. You can find CBD products crafted as a muscle relaxant at envyhemp.com available in the form of edibles, tinctures, capsules, and many more.

The Differences Between Marijuana and CBD

Some of the common ways by which marijuana and CBD differ from each other are

1. The High Effect

Though they both are gotten from the cannabis plant, they interact with different receptors in the human brain.

This means that CBD doesn’t get you high, while on the other hand, marijuana alters your mind and your mental abilities, and this tends to get you high. The THC component in cannabidiol is minimal. That’s why when you take, it doesn’t alter your mind. But in weed, the THC component is high, and this causes a changed mind, which then makes you high.

2. The Benefits

Both marijuana and CBD do have some medical benefits. And because of this, it has led to some medical facilities prescribing these substances for their patients.

Cannabis is prescribed for the following medical conditions.

  • Anxiety
  • Nausea
  • Muscle spasticity
  • Glaucoma
  • Body pain
  • Insomnia
  • Low appetite
  • stress

While CBD is prescribed for the following medical conditions.

  • Migraines
  • Mental disorder or psychosis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Seizures
  • Depression
  • Nausea
  • Anxiety
  • Pain
  • Inflammation

3. The Side Effects

Though both pot and CBD are seen as dangerous substances, they have minimal side effects. Based on findings by the World Health Organization (WHO), the cannabidiol has no side effects. When taken alone, CBD, even in large quantities, is safe. The only side effect that may arise is when you mix this substance with other medications.

For weed, some temporary side effects may arise, and they include:

  • Red eyes
  • Slower response time
  • Memory loss
  • Dry mouth
  • Lack of coordination
  • Increased heart rate
  • Tiredness

Though these side effects may differ in different individuals, still a continuous use of the substance will give you three or more of these effects.

Teenagers who abuse this substance may experience a mental breakdown or psychiatric effects, the reason being that their brain isn’t as strong as that of adults, it is still in the developing stages.

Researchers have found out that large doses of marijuana may increase the chances of the user developing schizophrenia, mostly if they are predisposed to this condition.

When taken correctly, neither kush or CBD can cause a severe problem for your health. It is now even a proven fact that individuals who take both these substances casually will never get addicted to it.

4. The Drug Testing

Both marijuana and CBD, when consumed, are stored in the body fat. Not all drug tests can detect cannabidiol in the body, but some sensitive tests are available that can identify this compound.

Whereas almost every standard drug test can detect marijuana because they look for a chemical that is related to THC, which can easily be found in your system if you use weed.

5. Ways to Take Each

Most people choose to smoke or vape both weed and cannabidiol. But you can also take them through different forms. For instance, whereas some people use cannabis-infused oils and skincare products, others prefer to use edibles such as gummies. If you would like to learn more about some of the different forms of cannabis consumption, you can find plenty of helpful resources on websites like Observer Media for example. While there are many ways to use cannabis, you want to be careful how much you use. You can check here for some tips on how to use THC and CBD safely.

Ways to take CBD.

  • Gummies
  • Supplements
  • Gels
  • Oils

Ways to take Marijuana

  • Any smokable product available
  • Edibles, like brownies
  • Tinctures
  • Capsules
  • Oils
  • cooking

Conclusion

Even though they both originate from the same plant, they affect the brain differently. Marijuana will make a person experience high while the CBD will not. And as seen above, they mostly have the same health benefits.
