Plan your sleep and wake up times accordingly

The average person needs anywhere from 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night. So it will make sense to set a time when you need to sleep and wake up. For example, if you sleep 8 hours and want to get up at 6AM, you’ll want to be in bed no later than 10PM.

It might be tough to adjust at first. But once you get into the rhythm, it’ll be easy to do. However, planning the times and following the schedule might not be enough. Power down electronics before bed

In this tip, let’s assume you’re going to bed at 10PM. This means you’ll want to power down your electronics about an hour and a half or even two hours prior. So you can shut off your phone and put it on ‘do not disturb’ mode as early as 8PM (no later than 8:30 PM).

The reason for this is that electronics will emit blue light, which can reduce melatonin levels considerably. Thus, it can even reduce your chances of falling asleep fast. The sooner you power down your electronics, the better.

Adjust the lighting before bed

The lighting will play a huge role in making sure you fall asleep fast. This will also pertain to the levels you set it to prior. You can dim the lights in your bedroom to a lower level (assuming you have that).

You can also invest in blackout curtains. If you are able to block out as much light as possible, it will improve your chances of getting a good amount of sleep. If you have a sleep mask, use it to your advantage.

See where we are going with this. When you need to get shuteye and fast, reducing as much light as possible will get the job done. It might not give you immediate results, but it will help you adjust into a further state where you can nod off quickly.

Keep things cool

By this, we mean the air temperature. It should be somewhere between 65 to 67 degrees. Make sure you set it about an hour prior to your scheduled sleep time.

This will give you the perfect condition to sleep in. Dark, cool, and relaxing. You’ll also want to invest in a fan or air conditioner during the summer months.

Your room can get quite hot and sticky during that time of year. Plus, it will make it hard to sleep. In the winter, make sure you have a heater that will keep it at that ideal temperature as well.

Check your HVAC system, if needed, to ensure you are able to do this on a regular basis. Regardless of what season it is, you’ll want to make sure you have the temperature set.

Cut off the caffeine

You’ll want to stop consuming caffeine about six hours prior to your bedtime. So if you are scheduled to go to bed at 10PM, don’t have it after 4PM. The sooner you cut it off, the better.

You may want to cut it out altogether if you want to get an even better night’s sleep. However, this can be difficult. You’ll want to taper off instead of quitting cold turkey so you don’t have to deal with the withdrawal symptoms like headaches or jitters that happen when you go without for days.
