A healthy set of teeth requires daily care inside the washroom with proper hygiene practices and cleaning. Proper techniques allow the teeth to stay clean and reduce the presence of bacteria and tooth decay. Estimations say, in 2016 that 51 per cent of Australian citizens had poor oral care which included only brushing once a day.

Having healthy oral hygiene is good for the overall health and well being of the human body. It means that patients can have proper food intake and other activities without any pain or discomfort. With that, make sure these practices are maintained to take oral care to the next level.

  1. Proper Brushing of Teeth: People should regularly undertake proper brushing techniques specified by the Australian dental association. These include holding the brush ag 45-degree angle and using short strokes.

Make sure to take at least two minutes to complete a thorough brushing. Brushing after every meal is recommended, but the minimum rate is at least two times every day. Make sure to brush the teeth right before bed and not have any snacks or food after that.

  1. Brush Type: Softer bristles with softer heads usually do the trick. Small round heads can reach the cavities that other larger brushes cannot touch for proper cleaning.

Make sure the brushes are cleaned regularly and thrown away every few months.

  1. Use Authentic Whiteners: Authentic teeth whiteners can make teeth more presentable. Make sure they don’t have any allergic constituents, and the dental associations approve them.
  2. Don’t Forget the Tongue: A majority of the bacteria present in the mouth resides on the tongue. Using a proper tongue scraper can help remove those bacterial deposits and help improve the mouth’s overall health. Plus it takes bad-breath away.
  3. Regular Checkups: Regular dental appointments once every few months can help identify any underlying dental health problems quickly. It can also curb any plague growth or decay present in the mouth. So make dental appointments a priority.
  4. Floss: Proper flossing of the teeth helps unlodge any food particles that might get stuck between teeth. It is always better to floss first and then brush after removing the particles from the mouth.
  5. Reduce Unhealthy Practices: They can include too much sugar intake, smoking substances and sugary drinks. Acid-producing bacteria feed on this sugar and in turn cause tooth decay.
  6. Fluoride: Use pastes that contain fluoride as they are known to be quite effective against tooth decay. Fluoridated toothpaste and water can help reduce the overall formation of decay growth in adults.

Mouthwash can also be beneficial as they can help fight bad breath and contain a fair amount of fluoride.

Indications of Good Oral Health:

  • Gums are pinkish, and there is no swelling. They do not bleed during brushing or eating food.
  • There is a reduced intensity of bad breath and residues.
  • Teeth appear clean and free of particles.

If any of these conditions are present, that’s an indicator of improper oral health and a dentist visit is recommended.

Being regular with all these simple steps can lead to a healthier and presentable oral cavity. Underlying problems require proper action before they progress. Using the correct brushing techniques and daily care habits, one can attain good oral health throughout their life.
