When anxiety hits, it turns your life inside out. The never-ending thoughts of how you’re not good enough and people don’t like you. You play scenarios over and over again in your head before and after conversations to analyze what you should have said.

The feeling of being overwhelmed by everything and paralyzed to the point you just want to lay in bed and hide from the world. Anxious thoughts can be debilitating, but there are ways to quiet them down and help regain a normal life.

Check out these five techniques to help calm your mind and bring peace to your soul.

1. Deep Breathing Exercises Relax the Mind

When anxiety takes over your life, your mind and heart race. The stress builds and you may develop a panic attack. Deep breathing techniques help center your mind and calm the body. You’re rushing your body with fresh oxygen and providing control in a seemingly uncontrollable situation.

Focus on evening inhaling your breath and exhaling.

2. The 3-3-3 Technique Refocuses the Mind from Anxious Thoughts

When your mind begins racing with negative thoughts, refocus it with the 3-3-3 technique. This is a proven technique brings you back to the present and keeps you from focusing too much on the future.

When anxiety rears its ugly head, look around and name three things you see. Close your eyes and name three things you hear. The last part is moving three different parts of your body. It occupies our minds and helps you regain control.

3. Say Special Mantras for Your Anxiety

Mantras are phrases, often used in Buddhism, that help to calm down your mind and body. They let put your focus on repeating the mantras and not about the thoughts running through your head.

By repeating the mantras, you’re occupying your mind and putting the focus on them. You can learn how to use Buddhist prayer beads to help count the mantras and add further control to your situation.

It soon becomes a type of mantra meditation and is an excellent way to relieve anxiety.

4. Physical Exercise Calms You Down

Anxiety can keep people from enjoying social situations and makes them a prisoner in their own home. One of the best ways to stop this is by enjoying some physical activity either at the gym or out in the open.

Put on your headphones, listen to your favorite music and take a run. You’ll occupy your mind with the music and your body with the exercise. Exercise can release endorphins and make you feel amazing. Don’t underestimate how much exercise and relieve anxious thoughts.

5. Develop Daily Routines

For many people, anxiety is created by a lack of control. Everything is happening to you and you don’t know how to deal with it all. By creating daily routines such as morning and bedtime rituals you assert control in your life.

You decide when to brush your teeth. You decide when to go to bed. The ability to make your own decisions helps reduce your overall anxiety and provides comfort.

We know that anxious thoughts can be difficult to control by their very nature. If you follow these tips, your mind will calm, and you’ll be able to make good rational decisions.
