The Average Cost of Wedding Flowers: A Complete Guide

October 6, 2021

The average cost of wedding flowers a complete guide | lets be game changers lets be game changers How much do wedding flowers cost? It’s a very common and reasonable question from brides and grooms across the country. Budgeting for a wedding is hard work and flowers often leave couples absolutely stumped. Will it cost $100, $1,000, or possibly more?

If you are trying to plan a flower budget, you are in luck! This article will share the average cost of wedding flowers along with a few ways to try and save money during the process while still expecting a beautiful outcome.

By the end of the article, you feel confident and excited about choosing wedding flowers!

Types of Wedding Flowers

Before we start with the nitty-gritty numbers, let’s talk about the flowers you might want for your wedding. First, and perhaps most important, is the bridal bouquet. The bride’s flowers are usually the most expensive because there are more of them and the arrangement is more elaborate.

Next, if the bride(s) have bridesmaids, they usually have bridesmaids’ bouquets. Sometimes the bride will have a special bouquet for the maid or matron of honor but other times all bridesmaids have the same flower arrangement.

A boutonniere is a decorative flower worn on a jacket lapel. Typically, the groom and his groomsmen wear a boutonniere on the day of the wedding. Sometimes the father-of-the-bride or father-of-the-groom will also wear a boutonniere. They can be pinned on the jacket or attached via small magnets.

The female equivalent of the boutonniere is the corsage. It’s a flower worn on a bracelet or piece of ribbon around the wrist. The mother-of-the-bride, mother-of-the-groom, or the bride or groom’s grandmother may wear a corsage at the wedding ceremony.

Are you having a flower girl at the wedding? If so, you can purchase flower petals from your florist and add that to the flower budget as well.

Flowers are also commonly featured as part of the centerpieces of each reception table. Or, you might want flower arrangements for your ceremony space. Whether it’s a backyard wedding or a formal church wedding, extra flowers can make a big difference for the reception space.

A few other types of flowers you may want to think about are:

  • Arrangements for welcome table, guest book table, or head table
  • Flowers for the cake
  • Flowers for the bride’s hair

Now you have an extensive list of the features of a wedding that could require flowers. At this point, it would be wise to decide which of these elements you want and which you can live without. Next, we’ll get to the wedding flower prices.

Average Cost of Wedding Flowers

The price of flowers will depend on a number of factors. First, where you get them from. Florists charge different amounts for the same flowers because of labor, delivery, and availability. You should get a quote from at least 2 to 3 florists before making a decision.

Price also depends on which flowers you choose and whether they’re in season and/or locally available. Depending on where you live certain flowers may not be in bloom right now, meaning a florist would have to travel to get them or order them which means more $$$ from you.

Now, for the numbers you’ve been waiting for! Here is a quick synopsis of average wedding flower costs:

  • Bridal bouquet: $100 – $250
  • Bridesmaid bouquet: $60 – $100
  • Boutonniere: $15 – $20
  • Corsage: $25 – $30
  • Reception centerpieces: $150 – $500
  • Flower girl petals: $15 – $25
  • Ceremony flowers: $1,00 – $3,000

Keep in mind these are all average costs. You may be able to find a better deal or you could be asked to pay more based on your choices. You’ll notice that the reception centerpieces and the ceremony flowers have a pretty big price range. The reason for that is the number of choices for centerpieces and ceremony flowers.

For example, a small bud vase with wildflowers and some filler will be far less expensive than 2 dozen roses in crystal vases on every table. And if you are outfitting a floral arch you’re going to pay a lot more than a few vases next to a church altar.

How to Budget for Wedding Flowers

Some florists are flexible when it comes to budget. If you have set aside $1,000 for flowers, tell them that before they start to pitch you ideas. They can help you find cost-saving solutions.

If you don’t have a flower budget yet, keep in mind that couples spend, on average, about $800 to $1,200 on flowers. But there are ways to save if you are feeling uncomfortable with that range.

For example, there is a lot of flexibility when it comes to centerpieces. If you want to save money on flowers, keep the centerpieces simple and consider using candles or garland to enhance the aesthetic. You can also cut down on the size of the bridal bouquet or bridesmaids’ bouquets.

Another option is to purchase and arrange your own flowers. Buy them wholesale from a flower market and get creative building bouquets, centerpieces, and other arrangements.

Alternatives to Traditional Wedding Flowers

Does the idea of spending $1,000 on flowers and then throwing them away make you feel upset? You’re not alone. Plenty of couples have a had time buying wedding flowers that they only get to enjoy for one day.

The solution? Sola wood flowers. Check out https://www.luvsolaflowers.com/ for premium sola wood flowers, filler, and other supplies. It’s a great eco-friendly, sustainable alternative to standard wedding flowers.

Flowers …. Check!

Cross one more thing off of your wedding checklist by ordering your flowers! Now that you have the average cost of wedding flowers you can feel more comfortable shopping, negotiating, and purchasing your flowers.

The best wedding flowers are the ones that feel special to you. But remember that there are beautiful arrangements available in different price ranges as well. Best of luck on your big day!
